Cardiac Ready Campus Committee sponsors blood pressure screening to recognize World Stroke Day on Oct. 29

UND’s Cardiac Ready Campus Committee is sponsoring blood pressure screenings from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29 in Room 103 of the UND Memorial Union.

Students from the UND’s College of Nursing & Professional Disciplines, along with the Simulation Center and Department of Sports Medicine from the UND School of Medicine & Health Sciences will provide the screenings.

According to the World Stroke Organization, stroke is a leading cause of death and devastating disability. One out of every four people is estimated to have a stroke in their lifetime. Every three seconds, someone, somewhere, is struck by a stroke. This means over 12 million people suffer from stroke each year. Of these 12 million, more than half will die from their stroke. For stroke survivors, the effects can be devastating. Families are shattered, lives are changed forever, and yet, stroke remains a “silent” epidemic that desperately needs a louder voice.

Hope remains, though, since nearly 90% of strokes could be prevented. By addressing a handful of manageable risk factors (physical inactivity being one of the top stroke risks) and increased public awareness we can be #GreaterThan stroke.

See you there!
