‘Graphic Medicine 101’ read-along starts Feb. 20

Join us as we discuss graphic medicine and read Menopause: a comic treatment!

Graphic medicine sits at “the intersection between the medium of comics and the practice of healthcare,” which includes graphic memoirs of illness, educational comics about medical practice, along with infographics and visual texts that engage with discourses of healthcare, illness, and therapy.

The UND libraries are excited to dive into the field of graphic medicine by launching a two-month book club read-along of Menopause: a comic treatment, an anthology of comics about menopause.

This series of events will launch on Feb. 20 with a roundtable, “Graphic Medicine 101,” and close April 22 with a keynote and book talk from Lisa Diedrich (Stony Brook University) and Briana Martino (Simmons University), editors of the forthcoming book Keywords/Keyimages in Graphic Medicine.

In between, join our read-along facilitators in online meet-ups to discuss the book! We are breaking the book down into four sections to read and discuss throughout the next few months. Two discussions per section are scheduled to offer attendees greater flexibility.

Register now to join the graphic medicine festivities!

The events are sponsored by the Library Resources team at the School of Medicine & Health Sciences, the UND Department of English, and the Chester Fritz Library.
