Andrew Carman to discuss schizophrenia at Psychiatry Grand Rounds on June 4
For the next Psychiatry Grand Rounds, to be held from 12:10 to 1:10 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, Andrew Carman, M.D., will present “Overview of current and emerging treatments in schizophrenia.” This broadcast will be held via Zoom.
Dr. Carman is a third-year resident in UND’s Psychiatry Residency Training Program. Dr. Lisa Schock, clinical associate professor at the UND School of Medicine & Health Sciences and adult inpatient psychiatrist at Prairie St. Johns in Fargo, N.D., will serve as Dr. Carman’s discussant.
Upon completion of this program, the learner will be able to:
- Provide a chronological overview of historically accepted treatments for schizophrenia.
- Review the psychopathology and psychopharmacology regarding the dopamine hypothesis with first-generation antipsychotics and serotonergic involvement with second-generation antipsychotics.
- Delve into the GABA/glutamate hypothesis for schizophrenia.
- Explore emerging treatments for schizophrenia.
- Discuss evidence for neuro-modulation for treatment of schizophrenia.
