Save the Date: Open forum for SMHS Vice Dean candidate on April 7
The UND School of Medicine & Health Sciences Dean’s Office will host Vice Dean & Chief Operating Officer finalist Dr. Paula Termuhlen on campus April 6-7. Students, staff, and faculty are invited to attend an open forum for the candidate on April 7 to hear from the candidate and participate in a live Q&A.
The forum will be held at noon in Room E101 on the SMHS Grand Forks Campus, and via Zoom. (Please note that although the forum will be available virtually, it will not be recorded.)
Paula M. Termuhlen, M.D., FACS, MAMSE, is Professor of Surgery Emeritus at Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine (WMed). Dr. Termuhlen has been part of the academic medicine community for over 30 years with an emphasis on medical education and mission-driven care delivery. She served as the founding Division Chief of Surgical Oncology and the General Surgery residency program director at Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine. While at the Medical College of Wisconsin, she served as a residency program director and led the development team which created the regional medical campuses in Green Bay and Central Wisconsin. She subsequently served as the regional campus dean for the University of Minnesota Medical School, Duluth Campus which has a mission to serve rural and Native American communities. Most recently, Dr. Termuhlen served as the President, CEO and Dean of the Western Michigan University Homer Stryker MD School of Medicine, a community-based independent medical school located in Kalamazoo, Mich.
Dr. Termuhlen is a Past President of the Association of Program Directors in Surgery and a member of the Academy of Master Surgeon Educators. She has worked in a variety of roles on behalf of the American College of Surgeons, Association of American Medical Colleges, Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education International and the National Board of Medical Examiners. Dr. Termuhlen has also served as the founding Editor-in-Chief of the open access Journal of Regional Medical Campuses and continues to be a member of its editorial board. She is widely published with a focus on rural graduate medical education.
