Attention UND Researchers: ICPSR access available
UND has an institutional subscription to the University of Michgan’s Institute for Social Research ICPSR database, giving affiliates access to a valuable collection of data resources and research support tools at no cost.
This may be especially useful for those involved in TRANSCEND or anyone working on projects with federal data-sharing requirements. To get started, choose “Access by institution” on the “Login” portion of the ICPSR website and sign in with your @UND credentials.
ICPSR offers more than access to datasets. It can also support researchers with data-sharing requirements, data restriction options, usage tracking, and other grant-related needs:
- They provide templates, manage data restriction options, track how data is being used and published, and support other grant-related needs.
- They also offer user support.
- If your grant includes training others to use the data, ICPSR can help set up courses, promote them, manage registration, and handle payments—making it easier for principal investigators to focus on the training itself.
Because ICPSR is member-funded, UND affiliates do not have to pay to access their data. When exploring datasets, users can filter by:
- Data format, including R, SPSS, and online analysis
- Variable, discipline, organization, or study
- Related publications that used the data
- Download options
- Restricted-use data availability
ICPSR also makes it easy to see how datasets have been used in published research, which can be especially helpful for demonstrating impact or supporting future grant applications.
As an added benefit, UND affiliates receive 50% off tuition for the ICPSR Summer Program:
- The option to take multiple courses within one session.
- Coursework in statistics and data analysis.
- On-demand teaching and learning resources focused on using data in the classroom.
