Library Resources—Hearts and (Information) Lovers
Close your eyes and think about Valentine’s Day. The first thing most of us think of is a heart and this month we have hearts for you in spades!
If you spend time in libraries, bookstores, local shops, or even Etsy, you have heard of the trend called “Blind Date with a Book.” As our Valentine’s Day gift, we want to set you up on a blind date with one of our resources. Check out the descriptions, pick the resource you are interested in, then follow the QR code to the blind date of your dreams.
And if that doesn’t thrill your heart, be sure to check out how the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the American Heart Association (AHA) are celebrating the month of hearts.
The CDC has put together three toolkits. One is for health care professionals and clinicians to help them support their patients, especially women, by listening to their hearts. Another is available for public health professionals to encourage their communities to take small steps toward developing healthier lives. And finally, one is designed for anyone who works with patients or individuals with CVD and its related conditions.
The AHA is celebrating its first 100 years of lifesaving work and is sharing its history and its future in articles and a video. And National Wear Red Day has downloadable tools and resources. And check out the American Heart Association’s free graphic on the difference between a cardiac arrest and heart attack as well as Heartsaver® Virtual, where you can take and complete CPR training with an instructor online.
Let me close with this quote from Linton Weeks: “In the nonstop tsunami of information, librarians provide us with floaties and teach us to swim” (because they love you). Happy Heart Month!
