The Space Studies Colloquium Series continues on Monday, April 6th with a presentation by Dr. Mike Gruntman at 4 p.m. in Ryan Hall, room 111.

Dr. Gruntman is a Professor of Astronautics for the Astronautics and Space Technology Division, Viterbi School of Engineering at the University of Southern California.

“The Road to Space – The First Thousand Years”
Rockets have been known for almost 1000 years. A long road led us from simple fireworks to intercontinental ballistic missiles and powerful space launchers that opened a way to the cosmos in the late 1950s. The lecture presents the fascinating story of the events that paved the way to space, the history of early rocketry and the subsequent developments which led into the space age. It focuses on the early days of rocketry and spacecraft; and on those often unappreciated and half forgotten visionaries, scientists, engineers, and political and military leaders who blazed the trail.
