Vishnu Reddy will defend his ESSP PhD dissertation on Tuesday, September 29th

SpSt Alumus Vishnu Reddy will defend his ESSP PhD dissertation on Tuesday, September 29th at 3:30 pm in Ryan Hall, room 134.
“Mineralogical Survey of Near-Earth Asteroid Population: Implications for Impact Hazard Assessment ad Sustainability of Life on Earth”
Catastrophic events have channeled the course of evolution of life on planet Earth.  Giant impacts due to asteroids and comets colliding in the geologic past are known to have caused the great mass extinctions.  The most recent one took place 65 million years ago (K-T impact) when a 10 km object impacted off the Yucatan Peninsula coast, Mexico, leading to the extinction of dinosaurs.  The dissertation focuses on three areas that will address the asteroid impact hazard mitigation issue:
–What is the compositional diversity of near-Earth asteroids and its implications for hazard assessment?
–What is the source region of the K-T impactor?
–Laboratory calibration techniques for interpreting asteroid composition.
This event will also be webcast live on Adobe Connect Pro. Please email Vishnu.Kanupuru@und.nodak.edu for details.
