Next Brown Bag Series luncheon on Sept. 8th

The Fall 2010 Brown Bag Seminar Series continues on Wednesday, Sept. 8th at the Space Studies library at noon.  Grad student Lynn van Broock will give a presentation on her current research work on Pablo de Leon’s grant funded project. Lunch will be provided. All grad students are expected to attend.

Fist Steps Taken: Construction of the Pressurized Rover Vehicle at Cirrus Co. and Design of Internal Accommodations for the Inflatable Lunar Base

The main objective of a NASA EPSCoR CAN 2009 grant, “Integrated Strategies for the Human Exploration of the Moon and Mars” is to develop a lunar base scenario that shall consist of two electrical rovers—one of them pressurized, and an inflatable lunar habitat. The integration of the system, that will also involve the NDX1/2 UND space suits, is planned to be tested in the Badlands of North Dakota two years from now.

The Space Suit Laboratory has already taken the first steps in this project with the beginning of the construction of the pressurized electrical rover during last summer and the design of the habitat interiors.

An updated status of these two systems shall be presented, as well as what the next steps on this challenging project will be.
