Title: Space Studies for the iPad:  Using Technology to Increase Public Knowledge and Interest in Space Topics

A major challenge of NASA is getting the general public interested and excited about space sciences and research.   As new technology, such as interactive handheld computing, has become increasingly popular and more widely available, many opportunities exist to create learning experiences more enjoyable than reading a textbook.  The goal of this work is to create software for the Apple iPad to increase public understanding and interest on a large number of different space related subject matter.  Accomplishing this task will involve researching iOS development tools, learning iOS design styles, researching and writing for an array of topics needed for the application’s content, and finally, coding the application itself.  Testing the software throughout the work will be done using the iPhone Simulator software and the iPad hardware to ensure the application functions as intended.  Upon completion, the application will be submitted to the App Store and be available at no cost to iPad users worldwide.
