Title:  SPACE-TIME VARIABILITY OF E-REGION TOTAL ELECTRON CONTENT (TEC) AND ELECTRON DENSITY PROFILES OVER THE AURORAL REGIONS

Visual aurora is the earliest exposure of humankind to phenomena originating in the upper atmosphere. The primitive records of an aurora can be traced to the Stone Age. The Earth’s geomagnetic field is generated by a core dynamo process. This dynamic geomagnetic field, along with solar outbursts, causes changes in ionospheric current flows.  The ionosphere is divided into three layers:  D-region, E-region and F-region. My research will focus on understanding how E-region electron density profiles and conductivity change over different latitudes, longitudes and time frames. Research will also highlight the correlation between electron density profiles, conductivity, and space-time variability of different aurorae. Electron density and conductivity would be calculated using radio occultation measurements coupled with other appropriate models. The correlation will be done using a statistical study of auroral events and non-auroral events.
