Alum Rask Meets Norway Prime Minister during South Pole Festivities

Jon Rask, graduate of the Dept of Space Studies, is spending several months as a researcher at the South Pole. He is shown here with Jens Stoltenberg, Prime Minister of Norway, who was at the South Pole for the 100 anniversary celebration of Roald Amundsen’s arrival there. Rask, along with six other scientists, put together a band and played the Norwegian national anthem for the delegation from Norway and all the foreign news corrrespondents. Amundsen was, of course, a Norwegian. And for Norway, Amundsen being the first human to arrive at the South Pole is similar in prestige to the Apollo 11 mission for the United States. After the official festivities, Prime Minister Stoltenberg, helped Rask harvest lettuce from the South Pole greenhouse.
