UND One of Top 12 Nonprofit Online Schools in the Nation

The University of North Dakota is ranked No. 11 out of more than 200 nonprofit schools in the nation for online education, according to this year’s rankings by Guide to Online Schools, a leading education website for aspiring college students.

The top 30 were evaluated and chosen based on stringent criteria established by Guide to Online Schools.  UND edged out other notable nonprofit schools offering online education such as Texas A&M, University of Kentucky and the University of Missouri.

“The University of North Dakota Online and Distance Education program continues to distinguish itself among the best of the best in the business of delivering exceptional education and training to people around the world through adaptive, convenient means — and above all — attention to student success,” said UND President Robert Kelley.

The criteria used by Guide to Online Schools to rank nonprofit schools were based on accreditation, cost of tuition and books, graduation and retention rates and student loan repayment rates.  The criteria were developed from The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), a federal organization responsible for collecting and analyzing education data. Overall, UND achieved a score of 74.08, just 7.24 points short of the top position of 81.32.

Guide to Online Schools stated that UND has a “particularly robust” online learning program that “encompasses all levels of learning, from professional development classes and certificates to graduate degrees.” The Guide also noted that UND “offers a number of accredited online programs that are hard to find at other institutions, such as undergraduate engineering degrees.”

Earlier this year, Guide to Online Schools ranked UND No. 3 in the nation for online military-friendly colleges. In addition, UND earned another No. 3 national ranking from U.S. News & World Report in its student services and technology category for online bachelor’s degree programs.

The flagship website of SR Education Group, Guide to Online Schools, offers extensive information on distance learning, careers, reviews written by actual online students and pages where students can directly contact schools for more information.
