Fall Seminar Series Concludes with Cassandra Johnson on Dec. 4th

The fall semester Brown Bag Seminar Series features graduate students providing presentations on their current research or recent internships.  The series concludes on Wednesday, December 4th, featuring grad student Cassandra Johnson presenting “Asteroids, Meteorites, and Their Spectral Properties”.

This series of presentations will be held in the Space Studies Library at noon.  Lunch will be provided.

About the topic: 

Cassandra Johnson is currently working on her thesis project surveying spectral data at the peak feature (between the charge transfer and Band I feature) in the visible-near infrared (VNIR) for meteorites in the ordinary chondrite subgroups (H, L and LL) with the intent to potentially denote a shift in the peak feature that may aid in better constraining the parent body or bodies for H, L and LL ordinary chondrites from ground based observations. The importance of this study would essentially clarify whether ordinary chondrite related asteroids can be characterized using the peak feature between the charge transfer and Band I feature, essentially creating a novel method of characterization analysis.
