At our most recent National Research Traineeship (NRT) student meeting, we brought the trainees together for a session focusing on breaking down academic jargon and fostering collaboration.

The Importance of Interdisciplinary Collaboration

The major highlight from our discussion was focused on the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration. We explored the value of stepping outside our respective departments to connect with peers from different fields. From our fellows, they learned it’s important to understand each other’s research jargon, to accept diverse research methodologies, and to gain fresh perspectives on the projects happening across disciplines.

We incorporated a fun, group activity where our fellows were discussing common jargon in their fields, leading to creative thinking, collaboration, and a joyful afternoon.
