Alumna Laura Welle Appointed to Seventh Judicial District Bench
UND Law graduate brings prosecutorial experience and public service record to new role.
Morrison County prosecutor Laura Welle has been appointed by Gov. Tim Walz to serve as a district court judge in Mille Lacs County. Welle, who prosecutes felony cases and handles child protection matters, will replace retiring Judge Gail T. Kulick and be chambered in Milaca. A first-generation attorney, Welle earned her law degree from the University of North Dakota School of Law after completing her undergraduate degree at Montana State University. Her appointment to the Seventh Judicial District follows years of public service in Morrison, Crow Wing, and Becker counties and recognition for her work, including Morrison County’s 2025 Award of Excellence.
