Professor Ariana D. Meyers Presents on Reproductive Rights at SEALS Annual Conference

Professor Ariana D. Meyers presented on two panels at the Southeastern Association of Law Schools (SEALS) Annual Conference, held July 31–August 1 in Amelia Island, Florida.

During the Family Law Workshop, she spoke on the panels “New Developments in Reproductive Rights and Justice” and “Reproductive Rights and Justice”.

Her presentation, drawn from her forthcoming article, Contract, Consent, and Balancing: Resolving Cryopreserved Embryo Disputes After Dobbs and LePage, examined how courts resolve disputes over frozen embryos when intended parents disagree, and how the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization and the Alabama Supreme Court’s ruling in LePage v. Center for Reproductive Medicine have unsettled long-standing legal frameworks in this area. Professor Meyers also previewed her ongoing research into embryo disputes that arise within an intact marriage, well before a divorce filing would otherwise bring the matter before a court.
