Ways To Avoid A Citation

  1. Purchase a Permit All vehicles parked on campus must be associated to a valid campus permit. If you are a visitor to campus, please see “Visitor Information regarding your parking options. If you will be parking on campus using an ADA (disabled) placard, you still need a permit.
  1. Park Where Your Permit AllowsBe sure to park only in zones or spaces specified by your permit type.
  1. Check SignsBefore parking your vehicle, check the parking signs. Each lot has signs that provide information on the type(s) of permit(s) that are authorized. In addition, individual spaces within the lots may be marked for a specific type of permit (Designated Reserve). These spaces may be used only by those displaying the corresponding permit.
  1. Park in Marked Spaces OnlyParking spaces are indicated by a line or markings on both sides of the space. Areas without such markings are not legal parking   spaces. Please make sure you are parked completely within the lined space (no wheels on or over the lines).  Vehicles not parked completely within the designated space may receive a parking citation.
  1. Avoid Parking in Reserved Space. (Service, Maintenance or Designated Reserved) – Avoid parking in any of the Service or Maintenance spaces.  These spaces require special permits or be a part of the UND State Fleet.
  1. Avoid Disabled Parking Spaces. (Must have State issued ADA permit) – Parking in ADA spaces at UND requires that a current, valid UND permit covers the vehicle. If an ADA placard or plate is not present on the vehicle, it may be issued a $100.00 citation.
  1. Do NOT use any of the Visitor Spaces in any lot on campusIf the vehicle you are driving is associated to you or your permit you cannot use the visitors’ parking spaces.
  1. Be Mindful of How You ParkEven if you have a permit or have paid for the location in which you have parked, you may receive a citation for improper parking. This includes parking over the lines, thus taking up multiple parking spots, or having your vehicle stick out too far into a roadway. Be mindful and considerate when you park your vehicle.
  1. No Plate PresentIf no plate is present, the last 8 digits of the vehicle identification number (VIN) should be temporarily used and for the state select “Missing Plate”. Once the plate is known and on your vehicle, you need to add it to your account and permit. Email Parking Services to remove old vehicles.
  1. Pay-To-Park ZonesYour hourly parking needs must be paid for and current for the vehicle to be legally parked. UND Permits are not valid in hourly parking spaces, and the meter must be paid for, or time paid through Passport Parking App (signs will be present ).
  1. Breaks Don’t Change RulesPermit or payment is required M-F 7 a.m. –  4 p.m. nights and  weekends have open parking (REA events are still enforced). UND safety parking rules and regulations are enforced 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Permit requirements during school break do not differ from requirements when school is in session.
  1. Avoid Restricted Zones on WeekendsUND permit is NOT required, however, parking in restricted zones will continue to be monitored/enforced (e.g. housing zones, reserved, safety concerns, no overnight, time limit zones, Engelstad Arena events).
