Provide Your Feedback on Two Revised Public Safety Policies

Every day, labs across campus handle biological materials. Every day, students and employees share close quarters in classrooms, offices, and residence halls. Two revised policies address how UND keeps people safe in both settings, and we want to hear from you before they’re finalized.

The Department of Public Safety has posted two policies for campus comment: Biological Safety Cabinet and Communicable Diseases.

The Two Policies

  • Biological Safety Cabinet. This policy sets clear requirements for the certified cabinets that protect lab personnel from exposure to biohazardous materials. It covers who can operate a cabinet, how often it must be certified, and who’s responsible for keeping it in working order.
  • Communicable Diseases. This policy explains how UND prevents, monitors, and responds to communicable disease on campus. It follows guidance from state and federal health authorities and addresses immunization requirements, reporting expectations, and how the university balances individual privacy with campus safety.

What Are We Asking of You?

Read both drafts. Think about how they connect to your work. Then tell us what you think. Do the policies reflect how things actually work on campus? Is anything unclear? Did we miss something? Your perspective matters.

The comment period is open September 21 – October 4. Submit your feedback online. All comments will be reviewed and considered before the policies are finalized.
