Media Advisory: Gen. David Allvin, Vice Chief of Staff of the U.S. Air Force, and U.S. Sen. Kevin Cramer to talk with UND ROTC cadets

Members of the media are invited to attend the event, which will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 10:45 a.m. in the UND Aerospace Atmospherium

Who: Gen. David Allvin, Vice Chief of Staff of the U.S. Air Force and President Biden’s nominee to be the next Air Force Chief of Staff, and U.S. Sen. Kevin Cramer will speak with UND ROTC cadets on Tuesday, Oct. 10.

What: Sen. Cramer will host Gen. Allvin during the general’s visit to UND. Sen. Cramer and Gen. Allvin are in town for the UAS Summit & Expo, which will be taking place at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks on Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 10 and 11.

Background: UND is proud to announce a visit to campus by U.S. Sen. Kevin Cramer and Gen. David Allvin, Vice Chief of Staff of the U.S. Air Force and President Biden’s nominee to be the next Air Force Chief of Staff. The Air Force Chief of Staff is the senior military officer in the Air Force, the principal military advisor to the secretary of the Air Force and a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

During their visit, Sen. Cramer and Gen. Allvin will be making a special stop in the UND Aerospace Atmospherium to talk with UND’s Army and Air Force ROTC cadets. UND President Andy Armacost will be present at the event.

Sen. Cramer’s goal for the visit is both to share his overall support for the University with Gen. Allvin, and to highlight how both the Air Force and Space Force are on the cutting edge of the space and air domains — domains that benefit greatly from the many partnerships and collaborations that UND’s aerospace and national defense efforts have brought about.

As Vice Chief of Staff, Gen. Allvin presides over the Air Staff and serves as a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Requirements Oversight Council and the Deputy’s Management Action Group. He assists the Chief of Staff with organizing, training and equipping of 689,000 active-duty, Guard, Reserve and civilian forces serving in the United States and overseas.

Gen. Allvin graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1986. He has commanded at the squadron and wing levels, including the 97th Air Mobility Wing, Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma. He has held major command staff assignments and served on the Joint Staff.

Gen. Allvin served as Commanding General, NATO Air Training Command – Afghanistan; Commander, 438th Air Expeditionary Wing, Kabul, Afghanistan; Commander, 618th Air and Space Operations Center; Director, Strategy, Concepts and Assessments; Deputy Chief of Staff for Strategic Plans and Requirements, Headquarters, U.S. Air Force and Director, Strategy, Plans and Policy, Headquarters U.S. European Command; and as Vice Director, Strategy, Plans and Policy, the Joint Staff. Prior to his current assignment, he was Director for Strategy, Plans, and Policy, J-5, Joint Staff.

Gen. Allvin is a command pilot with more than 4,600 hours in over 30 aircraft, including 800 flight test hours and 100 combat hours.
