MEDIA ADVISORY: SEA OTRR event will host ND State Superintendent Kirsten Baesler, 93 area high school students

Event aims to help kick-start education careers for high school students

What: UND’s Office of Teacher Recruitment and Retention’s See Education in Action (SEA OTRR) event.

Who: The College of Education & Human Development (CEHD) will host 93 high school students from North Dakota and Minnesota. Scheduled speakers include North Dakota State Superintendent Kirsten Baesler, UND Vice President of Student Affairs Art Malloy and Associate Professor and CEHD Interim Associate Dean of Student Services Jared Schlenker.

When: Tuesday, Feb. 27 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Welcome speeches will start at 10 a.m. and will include comments by State Superintendent Baesler.

Where: Memorial Union Ballroom 220.

Background: The half-day event is designed to provide a preview of UND for high school students interested in education careers. After welcome speeches, students will be led on guided tours of UND’s campus including stops at a residence hall and the Education building, where they will meet UND faculty and learn more about CEHD’s programs. The lunch hour will feature a panel of students from the student group Future Educators of UND. Monte Gaukler, OTRR outreach specialist, says that previous semesters’ SEA OTRR events have been successful and that they are excited to welcome Baesler for this event.
