Who: Two UND Petroleum Engineering professors – Moones Alamooti and Andreas Michael

What: A two-day energy education workshop for high school upperclassmen

When: Monday, April 20, and Tuesday, April 21

Where: Williston Basin Career & Technical Education Center, Williston, N.D.

About: As part of a UND CONNECT initiative to introduce high school students in Western North Dakota to energy sector careers, Moones Alamooti, teaching assistant professor of Energy & Petroleum Engineering, and Andreas Michael, assistant professor of Energy & Petroleum Engineering, will host a hands-on workshop for students.

As the project’s proposal notes, western North Dakota is facing a workforce shortage, despite the region’s status as a leading energy producer. In part, this is due to students’ limited exposure to the opportunities available and skills needed to take advantage of them, organizers assert.

Alamooti and Michael hope that the workshop – open to high school juniors and seniors in the Williston area – will introduce students to a variety of careers in the energy sector and located close to home.
