Health care and education are focus next week

Gov. Hoeven has proclaimed March 22-27 as Health in Partnership with Education Week in North Dakota. Throughout the week, communities, schools and health care facilities are sponsoring health care-related events and activities.

The current and projected shortage of health care professionals in the state and across the nation is creating a critical demand for an increased health care workforce. Some of the most exciting and fastest growing careers are in health care. Careers in health information management, nursing, pharmacy and many more areas are available for both men and women. Thousands of additional health care workers will be needed in the coming years.

Because of the increase in need, North Dakota’s health care industry finds itself facing a growing shortage of trained professionals. In an effort to help bolster the heath care workforce of the future, the Center for Rural Health at The University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences is sponsoring HIPE Week along with other workforce initiatives that focus on exposing elementary, middle and high school students to health career opportunities.

The following organizations have endorsed HIPE Week.
• Center for Rural Health, The University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences
• The American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science-North Dakota
• North Dakota Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics
• North Dakota Department of Career and Technical Education
• North Dakota Department of Commerce, Division of Workforce Development
• North Dakota Department of Health
• North Dakota Eastern Area Health Education Center
