Please take remote instrumentation survey

Kim Owen, the NDSU representative to the National Internet2 K20 Initiative (http://k20.internet2.edu/internet2), is seeking  help in completing a brief survey concerning Remote Instrumentation for research and education.

Below is a link to the brief survey:  http://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?hl=en&formkey=dHdWWlZJSFpzWEZIMGszSXhnazNRY1E6MA

It should take about 10 minutes to complete. Once submitted, members of  the Internet2 K20 Initiative will review your responses and may get back in touch to schedule a brief follow up conversation (via phone or videoconference). We ask that you complete the survey by the end of March 2010, if possible.

The survey was developed by members of the National Internet2 K20 Initiative, and designed to help better understand how remotely accessible telescopes, microscopes, sensory arrays, web cameras, ROVs, and various data visualization tools are currently being used within the Internet2 scientific research community and whether opportunities exist to extend access to some of these resources to Internet2‑enabled K‑20 institutions in a mutually beneficial and sustainable manner.

The National Internet2 K20 Initiative at http://k20.internet2.edu/internet2 connects over 65,000 K‑20 organizations including K‑12 schools, community colleges, universities, libraries, science centers, and museums to the Internet2 Network, the
foremost U.S. advanced research and education backbone network.

An example of a successful remote instrumentation outreach effort includes Lehigh University’s Imaginations Project which provides middle and high school students live remote access to a research quality, near‑nano scale Microscopy lab. This virtual lab includes full control of a Scanning Electron Microscope, an Energy Dispersive X‑ray
Spectrometer, an Infra‑red chamber camera to monitor the specimens, and simultaneous video conferencing with researchers and scope technicians assisting at Lehigh.
