Atmospheric Sciences student named Outstanding Senior Woman by local AAUW chapter

Kelsey Watkins, a UND senior majoring in atmospheric sciences, is the recipient of this year’s Outstanding Senior Woman Award. The award is presented by the UND Chapter of the American Association of University Women to a graduating senior for outstanding academic achievement, significant contribution to the community, and potential in her field.

Watkins, a native of Ortonville, Minn., who plans to attend graduate school in the fall, has earned numerous national scholarships during her undergraduate career, including the prestigious National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Hollings Scholarship.

“She has presented her research at national conferences including the American Geophysical Union’s Ocean Sciences meeting and the AMS 90th Annual AMS meeting, both this year,” said Mike Poellot, professor and chair of the John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences Department of Atmospheric Sciences.
