Emergency Preparedness
Aug. 25, 10 a.m. to noon, Memorial Union, Badlands Room
Learn UND’s procedures for dealing with all types of emergencies, including but not limited to: severe weather, terrorism, natural disaster, and pandemic influenza. Guidance will be given regarding the proper action to take before, during, and after an emergency. Presenter: Jason Uhlir

Outlook 2007: Take a “Look” at Outlook.

Become familiar with the “Look” of Outlook 2007 and learn how you can complete the most commonly used features we used in GroupWise: schedule Appointments, create Tasks and create Notes; Busy Search (Scheduling Assistant); Multi-View Calendars (Overlay Mode or Side-by-Side Mode); create Groups; search E-mails; Proxy Access (Assign Permissions and Delegate); adding a Signature Line; archive E-mail messages; create Rules; assign Categories; and Import Address Books into Outlook (Example: Import Comma-Separated Values: Windows Excel spreadsheet into Contacts). Defensive Driving
Aug. 31, 12:30 to 4:30 p.m., Skalicky Tech Incubator, Room 211
This session is required by State Fleet for all UND employees who drive State Fleet vehicles on a regular (monthly) basis, received a traffic violation, or had an accident while operating a State Fleet vehicle. Employees are encouraged to bring a family member (spouse or dependents). This session may also reduce your North Dakota insurance premiums and could possibly remove points from your driving record. Presenter: Eric Pearson

Laboratory Safety
Sept. 2, 10 to 11:30 a.m., 115 Abbott Hall
Learn general lab-safety principles for the use of chemicals in laboratories. This session covers potential health hazards in the laboratory, protective measures, and response to incidents and emergencies. This training is required for all University employees working in a laboratory. Presenter: Eric Pearson

Radiation Safety
Sept. 2, 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Room 5006
This session will cover basic principles of radiation protection. Attendance is required for all individuals working with radioactive materials at the UND. Topics discussed will include, but are not limited to: types of radiation, methods of protection, exposure monitoring, handling techniques, decontamination, security, and waste disposal. Blood-borne Pathogens & the UND Sharps Policy Online
Open enrollment: Aug. 1 through Sept. 30
Blackboard session: Attendees will be provided login information upon enrollment. This online session will provide introductory information on blood-borne pathogens relating to work-place hazards, and the UND Sharps policy. Procedures applicable to needle sticks and other contaminated cuts will be outlined, as well as guidelines for handling spills involving body fluids. Topics reviewed include: protective equipment, disposal of contaminated materials, and guidelines to report the incident. Universal Precautions will be defined. Presenter: Claire Moen

Introduction to Ergonomics Online
Open enrollment: July 1 through Sept. 30
Blackboard session: Attendees will be provided login information upon enrollment. Become acquainted with Ergonomics through this new online training! Ergonomics will be defined along with identifying goals associated with the UND Ergonomic Program as seen at: www.und.edu/dept/policyoffice/Policies/safety/safety/PDF/ergonomics.pdf. Topics to be covered include: risk factors to avoid for prevention of cumulative trauma disorders (CTDs), symptoms of CTDs, and preventive strategies for CTDs. Presenter: Claire Moen

Office Ergonomics Online

Blackboard session: Attendees will be provided login information upon enrollment.
This online session will present ergonomic risk factors as they relate to the office environment. Topics that will be addressed include: appropriate work station design; correct posture and wrist positioning while at the computer; and lighting concerns. This training will also cover various cumulative trauma disorders that may develop from awkward positioning, and poor work habits. Presenter: Claire Moen
