The Center for Human Rights and Genocide Studies will host journalist and scholar James Boys, the British Broadcasting Corp.’s (BBC’s) chief U.S. political correspondent, on campus for a week-long fellowship starting Monday. Boys was at UND last spring as a visiting fellow conducting research for papers he’ll present here next week.
Here are highlights of Boys’ week on the UND campus:
  • Keynote address, “The Perpetual War on Terror,”  7 p.m., Tuesday , Oct. 26, in the East Asian Room of the Chester Fritz Library
  • Presentation and panel discussion, “The Clinton Administration in Rwanda: A Reappraisal” with UND political scientists Dr. Paul Sum and Dr. Brian Urlacher and CHRGS Director Gregory Gordon, 12:15 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 28, Baker Courtroom of the UND School of Law
  • Town Hall Meeting, “A British View of the American Midterm Elections,” Wednesday, Oct.  27 at 7 p.m. in the Grand Forks Herald Community Room, Boys,  with members of the Grand Forks community.
  • Faculty Workshop, Boys will discuss his work-in-progress on peace initiatives during the Clinton administration,  Friday, Oct. 29 at 12 p.m. in the Memorial Union.

“This is really exciting for us and for the community,” said Gordon, a professor in the UND School of Law, who invited Boys to campus. “Dr. Boys is one of Britain’s most prominent public intellectuals. He conducted the bulk of his research for his terrorism and Rwandan genocide papers as a Visiting Fellow here on the UND campus. Those papers will be published on the CHRGS Web site. It is an important milestone for CHRGS to be sponsoring, publishing, and presenting original scholarship – especially from such a distinguished academic.”
