Campus conversation with Undergraduate Learning Working Group is Nov. 8

Please join us Monday, Nov. 8, in the River Valley Room, Memorial Union, for a campus conversation with the Undergraduate Learning Working Group.  Lunch will be at noon, and will be followed at 12:30 p.m. with an update on the Undergraduate Learning Working Group from co-chairs Ryan Zerr and Brett Goodwin.  The remainder of the schedule follows:

1 p.m., “Why We’re Great at Undergraduate Education — and What To Do About It,”with Steve Light, associate provost for undergraduate education.

1:30-2:30 P.m., “Going Forward:  An Opportunity for Your Input.”

Please plan to join the members of the Undergraduate Learning Working Group (ULWG), a cross section of faculty and others charged by Provost LeBel to consider how best to enrich the undergraduate academic experience at UND, for lunch and an important opportunity to provide your direct input to the Group.

The event will begin with lunch in the River Valley Room of the Union at noon and will include (starting at 12:30 p.m.) an update on the ULWG’s efforts after a year of collaboration.

At 1 p.m., we’ll continue with Provost LeBel’s introduction of UND’s new Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education, Steve Light. Dr. Light will share his thoughts on how UND can continue to build on its abundant strengths, as well as national best practices, to lead the way in providing a top-tier undergraduate experience. After a brief break, the conversation will conclude with an hour-long opportunity (from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.) for those in attendance to provide meaningful input about the initiatives being planned, to suggest new ideas they feel might have been overlooked, and to help answer important questions to guide the ULWG’s ongoing work.

The ULWG very much wants your input! Although the conversation will last for a total of two-and-one-half hours, please feel free to attend only those parts that fit your schedule. Even the final part, from 1:30 to 2:30, will be structured to allow  people to leave or enter during a brief break between 1:50 and 2 p.m.. Please RSVP by Oct. 29 at 4 p.m. (an RSVP is required for lunch, but we would appreciate knowing if you are planning on attending the afternoon’s events as well). Register online on the OID webpage at www.oid.und.edu .

Questions can be directed to either of the ULWG co-chairs: Brett Goodwin, Biology, brett.goodwin@und.edu, 777-2757, or Ryan Zerr, Mathematics, ryan.zerr@und.edu, 777-4605.
