UND Foundation announces scholarship in honor of Bob Boyd

In honor of Dr. Robert Boyd, the University of North Dakota’s outgoing Vice President for Student Affairs, a scholarship to support undergraduate emerging leaders has been established in the College of Business and Public Administration at UND.

The Dr. Robert Boyd Emerging Leader Scholarship Endowment was established through the UND Foundation by Dr. Boyd’s daughters and sons-in-law, Amy, ’94, and Dr. Ryan Karlstad and Tiffany, ’98, and Matthew Reis, ’98, to honor his dedication to leadership and carry on his legacy for years to come.

Called “Mr. UND” by UND President Robert Kelley, Dr. Boyd has left his position as the students’ vice president and will serve full time as UND’s Nickname and Logo Transition Officer.

“Dr. Bob Boyd’s great energy is fed by the enthusiasm of the students here at UND,” said Kim Woods, Director of Development for the College of Business and Public Administration. On Jan. 28, more than 300 students, faculty and staff honored him at a celebration in the Memorial Union ballroom.

The Dr. Robert Boyd Emerging Leader Scholarship Endowment addresses one of the primary tenets of North Dakota Spirit | The Campaign for UND, which is to raise $100 million for student scholarships. Recipients of the Emerging Leader Scholarship will include students who have a history of demonstrating leadership, starting in high school, and have the desire to expand their interest and build leadership skills while attending UND. The annual scholarship will see its first recipient in the fall semester.

UND faculty and staff, alumni and friends who wish to honor Dr. Boyd’s 32 years of service to the University and commitment to UND students may make a gift to the scholarship endowment. All gifts made in Boyd’s honor to this endowment may qualify for a matching gift through a challenge grant earlier established by the B. John Barry Family Foundation. The grant is part of the Barry Foundation’s $10 million gift to the UND Foundation as part of the North Dakota Spirit campaign and will contribute $1 for every $3 gifted to the endowment.
