Safe Online Practices – Protecting Your Identity and Securing Your Computer

The Internet can provide a wealth of information and give access to valuable financial, business, educational, and entertainment services. However, when connected to the Internet, you and your computer become vulnerable to scammers, identity thieves, viruses, spyware and more. This session will provide the information needed to help you protect your identity and computer while online.

Hiring Procedures and the Termination Process

Student Employment and Staff Development: A Winning Combination, Keys to a Successful Year

What kind of work experience are you providing student employees? How are the actions of your supervisors affecting morale, productivity and retention? Each school year students have access to hundreds of employment opportunities on our campuses. Yet as departments struggle to recruit and retain student workers, are we also overlooking opportunities to develop much needed supervisory skills for our full-time staff? This session will show how a work environment can become an integrated part of the education and preparation of the whole student as it relates to his or her total collegiate experience. It will also identify skill sets that supervisors need to help today’s students develop beyond the practical aspects of their jobs.

Visa Issues and the Hiring of International Faculty & Staff

If you are hiring international faculty/staff or sponsoring visiting scholars, this session will provide guidance concerning the acquisition of the correct visa for international faculty, visiting scholars, medical residents, and professional staff. The difference between J-1, H-1B, and TN visas will be discussed along with application procedures through the Office of International Programs, U.S. Immigration and Citizenship Service, and U.S. Department of State.

Defensive Driving

This session is required by State Fleet for all UND employees who drive State Fleet vehicles on a regular (monthly) basis, have received a traffic violation, or have had an accident while operating a State Fleet vehicle. Employees are encouraged to bring a family member (spouse or dependents). This session may also reduce your North Dakota insurance premiums and possibly remove points from your driving record.

Microsoft Outlook 2010: Level 1 (Beginning)
Feb. 23, 9 a.m. to noon
Prerequisite: MUST have a BPOS E-mail Account on the NDUS E-mail System; basic understanding of computers; mouse and file saving/retrieving skills.
Upon successful completion of this session, you will be able to: identify the components of the Outlook environment; and perform simple tasks such as sending and responding to e-mail messages, compose messages, use folders to organize messages, manage contacts and contact information, schedule appointments, schedule meetings, and manage tasks and notes.

Running, Reading, & Reconciling Key Finance Reports in PeopleSoft
Feb. 24, 9 to 10:30 a.m.

Prerequisite: Must have previously attended either a “Budgets Overview Inquiry” or “Budget versus Cash Inquiry” U2 session and must have a PeopleSoft user ID and password for Finance Module.
This training provides the tools necessary to navigate through PeopleSoft in order to run, read, and understand PeopleSoft financial reports. Important tips will be provided to help you recognize why, when, and how to reconcile revenue and expense transactions posted to your funds. Troubleshooting tips and tools to help you resolve budgeting errors will also be provided. This session includes hands-on practice activities.

Bloodborne Pathogens and the UND Sharps Policy Online
Open enrollment: Oct. 1 to Dec. 31
Blackboard session: Attendees will be provided login information upon enrollment. This online session will provide introductory information on blood borne pathogens relating to work-place hazards, and the UND Sharps policy. Procedures applicable to needle sticks and other contaminated cuts will be outlined, as well as guidelines for handling spills involving body fluids. Topics reviewed include: protective equipment, disposal of contaminated materials, and guidelines to report the incident. Universal Precautions will be defined. Presenter: Claire Moen

Introduction to Ergonomics Online

Blackboard session: Attendees will be provided login information upon enrollment. Become acquainted with Ergonomics through this new online training. Ergonomics will be defined along with identifying goals associated with the UND Ergonomic Program as seen at www.und.edu/dept/policyoffice/Policies/safety/safety/PDF/ergonomics.pdf. Topics to be covered include: risk factors to avoid for prevention of cumulative trauma disorders (CTDs), symptoms of CTDs, and preventative strategies for CTDs. Presenter: Claire Moen

Office Ergonomics Online

Blackboard session: Attendees will be provided login information upon enrollment.
This online session will present ergonomic risk factors as they relate to the office environment. Topics that will be addressed include: appropriate work station design; correct posture and wrist positioning while at the computer; and lighting concerns. This training will also cover various cumulative trauma disorders that may develop from awkward positioning, and poor work habits. Presenter: Claire Moen

The U2 program is designed to coordinate the planning and delivery of campus professional development activities for UND staff and student employees. Train the Trainer in Ergonomics * Online
Open enrollment: Oct. 1 to Dec. 31
Attendees will use Blackboard and will be provided login information upon enrollment.
The new UND Ergonomic Program will be reviewed, as well as an introductory explanation of ergonomics that is to be shared with your staff members. UND Administration supports this effort, and part of our Workers’ Compensation Discount depends on participation in this class. Certificates will be presented, and attendance will be monitored. We look forward to having as many people as possible attend this session. Presenter: Claire S. Moen
