Humanities stipend applications sought for Summer 2012

Notice seeking proposals for advanced research that is of value to humanities scholars, general audiences, or both. Recipients usually produce articles, monographs, books, digital materials, archaeological site reports, translations, editions, or other scholarly resources.

Action:
Applications are due September 29, 2011. Each award is for $6,000 for two consecutive months of full-time research and writing. Summer Stipends are awarded to individual scholars. Organizations are not eligible to apply.

Nomination of college and university faculty
Faculty members teaching full-time at colleges or universities must be nominated by their institutions to apply for a Summer Stipend. Once faculty members are nominated by their institutions, they may submit their applications via Grants.gov. Each college and university in the United States and its jurisdictions may nominate two faculty members. Any faculty member is eligible for nomination.

Nominating Procedures
Applicants will need to submit a two-page proposal to the nominating official, Dr. Phyllis E. Johnson, Vice President for Research & Economic Development. The proposal needs to include the following items:

  1. Name and contact information (telephone number and email address).
  2. Project title and description.
  3. Proposed project starting and ending dates.
  4. Reason you should be nominated.
  5. Letter of support from your department chair.

The deadline for submitting a proposal to be considered for a nomination is Sept. 1. Proposals must be submitted via email to vpr@research.und.edu. Questions can be directed to Barry Milavetz, associate vice president for Research and Economic Development, at 777- 4278.
