UND to extend application period in national search for next CNPD dean

UND Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Eric Link announced today that he is extending the national search for the next permanent dean of the College of Nursing & Professional Disciplines (CNPD) to allow time to attract and recruit a larger pool of quality candidates.

The decision follows thorough discussions with the campus committee charged with finding candidates for the CNPD deanship, the committee’s chairperson, UND Aerospace Dean Bob Kraus, and search consultants.

Previously, it had been suggested that a new CNPD dean may be on board at UND by July. A new timeline proposes extending the application period to July, with the intention of having finalists visit campus in August or September.

In February, Provost Link tapped CNPD faculty member Maridee D. Shogren to serve as interim dean of the College.

“It’s critically important that we have a deep pool of outstanding candidates from which to choose the CNPD’s next leader,” said Provost Link. “With Dr. Shogren providing strong interim leadership, we have an opportunity to invest more time in attracting and recruiting candidates with potential to be the right fit for the College and to strengthen UND’s leadership in nursing, nutrition and social work on campus and across the region.

“I want to express my sincere thanks to Dean Kraus, the search committee, and our consultants from Harris Search Associates for their dedication to excellence throughout this process and for their willingness to continue efforts to ensure our candidate pool is as strong as possible.”
