UND Center for Innovation hosting SBIR/STTR webinars Feb. 14 and 21

UND’s Center for Innovation, in partnership with BBC Entrepreneurial Training & Consulting, is hosting a session on “Basic Research Grants vs. SBIR/STTR” at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 14.

All are welcome to this virtual seminar. The session is ideal for University students and staff experienced in grant-writing and considering SBIR/STTR funding to advance research and development.

Registration for the webinar is now available via Zoom.

The following description is from the Center for Innovation:

You’ve had experience with NIH research grants – RO1s, R21s, RO3s – and you’re ready to transition to SBIR/STTR. Not so fast! The two mechanisms are definitely NOT the same.

The participation qualifications are different, so is the review criteria, and the ultimate goal of the R&D is different.

This webinar highlights where you’ll need to think, plan and write differently to be successful with the SBIR/STTR program — and why you’ll need more SBIR/STTR training to be competitive with your proposal.

A follow-up virtual session titled “University Participation in SBIR/STTR: From Pre-submissions to Post-award” will be hosted Feb. 21 at 1 p.m.

The following description is from the Center for Innovation:

Universities are often directly or indirectly involved in the development and execution of SBIR/STTR-funded projects, so it is important that university administrators understand SBIR/STTR requirements,
and that the small business understands the university’s policies. Understanding these rules is critical to successful proposal and compliance.

This session covers issues that need to be addressed both as the proposal is being developed and after it is awarded looking specifically from the university’s perspective.

We’ll review:

• Primary Investigator Requirements
• Sub-contracting rules/limitations
• University lab vs. Small business facilities
• “Waste, Fraud and Abuse” rules and more!
