April 25: UND Wind Ensemble Concert features Godzilla vs. the tuba!

The University of North Dakota Wind Ensemble will present their final concert of the academic year on Thursday, April 25, at 7:30 p.m. The performance will be held at the Chester Fritz Auditorium on the UND campus, and is free and open to the public. The concert will be livestreamed on the UND Music website.

The Wind Ensemble, conducted by James Popejoy, will feature performances of two large contrasting works: Gary Ziek’s “Concerto for Tuba and Wind Ensemble,” a fun and festive work featuring UND Music Education major Giles Askim, and the “campy” “Godzilla Eats Las Vegas” by Eric Whitacre. Rounding out their program will be such band classics as Karl King’s “Barnum and Bailey’s Favorite” march; “A Festival Prelude” by Alfred Reed; and Warren Barker’s arrangement of George Gershwin’s “Strike Up the Band.” Graduate conductor Emily Chasowy will lead the ensemble in a performance of Ronald Lo Presti’s poignant “Elegy for a Young American.”
