UND University Band and Vivo to present “MOVIE MUSIC: Pure Imagination” on April 23

The University of North Dakota University Band and their special guests, the UND Vivo Chamber Choir, will join forces to present a pops concert “MOVIE MUSIC: Pure Imagination,” on Tuesday, April 23, at 7:30 p.m. The performance will be held in the UND Memorial Union Ballroom, and is free and open to the public. The concert will be livestreamed on the UND Music website.

The concert will feature the ensembles performing unique settings of music written for, and used in, movies.

Vivo, under the direction of Melanie Popejoy, will include arrangements of “Valerie” by Amy Winehouse, as well as the award-winning Billie Eilish tune “What Was I Made For?” from the motion picture “Barbie” in their program.

James Popejoy will conduct the University Band performing “Hollywood Milestones; Rainbows; Moon River,” featuring vocalist UND Music major Henrietta Tracey, and “Highlights from ‘The Music Man.'”

Graduate conductor Emily Chasowy will lead the band in music written by John Williams for the Star Wars and Harry Potter movie franchises. The two ensembles will combine to perform “Pure Imagination” from “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory,” as well as music from the movie musicals “Mama Mia!” and “Chicago.” Featured guest artist for the concert is UND Professor of Percussion Jason Kihle.
