Ferraro earns Editor of Distinction Award from Springer Nature

F. Richard Ferraro, Chester Fritz Distinguished Professor of Psychology, has been named an Editor of Distinction by publisher Springer Nature.

For the company’s 2025 honors, Ferraro was recognized with the Editorial Contribution Award for his work with Current Psychology — a publication for which he has served as editor-in-chief since 2013.

“This award recognizes your meticulous assessment of submissions and rigorous management of the peer review process, safeguarding the scientific accuracy of the published record,” wrote Ritu Dhand, chief scientific officer for Springer Nature, in a notification letter.

Also recognized was Ferraro’s co-editor-in-chief, Lauren Seifert, professor of Psychology, Social & Behavioral Sciences at Malone University in Canton, Ohio.

Springer Nature, headquartered in London, is comprised of several subsidiaries and publishing houses in the field of academic research and hosts more than 3,000 journals from brands such as Nature Portfolio, Macmillan Education and Scientific American. Current Psychology is owned by Springer Science+Business Media.

This is the latest accolade of several in Ferraro’s academic career, having joined UND as an assistant professor in 1992. Last year, he was named a Top Scholar by ScholarGPS with more than 4,200 citations of his hundreds of lifetime publications.

Specializing in neuropsychology, cognitive aging and autism spectrum disorder, among other topics, he was named a Chester Fritz Distinguished Professor in 2007 and is a past recipient of the Thomas J. Clifford Faculty Achievement Award for Excellence and Research at UND.

In addition to his role with Current Psychology, Ferraro has served as executive editor for the Journal of Psychology and General Psychology.
