UND Mortar Board chapter earns two national awards
The Mortar Board National College Honor Society recently announced the winners of its annual, national award categories.
The University of North Dakota’s Quo Vadis Chapter of Mortar Board was among 21 institutions named for the 2025 Gold Torch Award — a distinction given to chapters executing and exemplifying the Society’s core values of excellence in academics, leadership and service.
UND was also one of three institutions named for the Society’s 2025 Project Excellence Award in the community service category. The University’s chapter was recognized for its Turkey Basket Drive.
This past year — the 45th year of the Turkey Basket Drive — chapter members distributed as many as 976 turkey baskets to low-income families in Grand Forks. The baskets consisted of turkey, potatoes, pie crust, pie filling, stuffing, cranberries and canned vegetables to create a complete Thanksgiving meal.
In total, the baskets cost around $16,000, which was raised through fundraising events.
