UND professor’s Fulbright scholarship featured in Gulf Times

Headshot of Ali Alshami

This summer, Ali Alshami, associate professor of Chemical Engineering at UND, completed his Fulbright scholarship for the 2024-25 academic year in collaboration with Qatar University’s College of Engineering in Doha, Qatar’s capital.

In July, the Gulf Times featured Alshami’s achievement, reporting that “Alshami contributed to joint research on innovative, sustainable water treatment technologies, including the development of renewable membrane materials and environmentally friendly antiscalant solutions. He also taught courses, mentored students, and shared expertise through public talks and seminars.”

The publication also shared Alshami’s participation in international conferences through his year-long scholarship. More information on his tenure in Doha is available in the Gulf Times’ article.

UND Today first reported Alshami’s Fulbright U.S. Scholar award in June 2024.

Fulbright U.S. Scholars are faculty, researchers, administrators, and established professionals teaching or conducting research in affiliation with institutes abroad. Fulbright Scholars engage in cutting-edge research and expand their professional networks, often continuing research collaborations started abroad and laying the groundwork for forging future partnerships between institutions.

Alshami has been a member of the faculty at UND since 2014, previously spending ten years in the private sector working on research-and-development engineering projects in the chemical manufacturing industry.

His research interests include material interfacial phenomena, polymer science and membrane separation, and biochemical product development.
