EERC’s Chris Zygarlicke retires after 38 years of service

Chris Zygarlicke’s story at the Energy & Environmental Research Center began in 1984 when he arrived as a graduate student and laboratory technician.
By 1987, he officially joined the team, setting off a career marked by steady growth and unwavering commitment. Over the years, Zygarlicke moved from research associate to research supervisor, then research manager, senior research manager, and eventually deputy associate director for research.
His path later led him into strategic leadership as special assistant to the director and associate vice president for Strategic Projects and University Relations before taking on the role that has defined his final chapter at the EERC: Director of Employee Development and Engagement.
Through every transition, Zygarlicke brought an unmistakable mix of vision, integrity and genuine investment in people. He played a central role in shaping programs that have become core to the EERC experience—the Employee Development Program, the Ambassador Program, and the always-anticipated SOAR awards. His enthusiasm, energy and ability to make others feel supported have left a mark that won’t soon fade.
Please join Dec. 12, 2025 from 2 to 3 p.m. at the EERC as we wish him well on his next adventure, and sign the guestbook.
