UND introduces Talk to the Hawk service
UND’s Community Standards & Care Network is introducing Talk to the Hawk, a new AI-powered texting service designed to help undergraduate students find answers and connect with campus resources when they need them.
Talk to the Hawk will reach out to undergraduate students periodically throughout the semester to check in and offer support. Students also can use the service 24/7 to ask questions about topics ranging from academics and financial aid to campus involvement, health and well-being, and other student services.
The goal is to make it easier for students to find the right UND resource and get help before a question or challenge becomes a barrier to their success. If Talk to the Hawk can’t answer a question, students can be directed to a UND staff member for additional assistance during regular business hours.
Faculty and staff may hear students refer to Talk to the Hawk or have questions about text messages students receive from the service. Talk to the Hawk is an official UND service for undergraduate students, intended to supplement existing student support services and direct connections with faculty and staff.
The service includes safeguards designed to identify when a student may need additional support and alert the appropriate UND office for individualized follow-up. Talk to the Hawk is not an official reporting mechanism, and students should continue to use UND’s established reporting and emergency resources when appropriate.
Student chats are considered educational records and are protected by FERPA. Student information is not sold or used for marketing, and conversations are not used to train external public AI tools.
