UND Wellness Trail closing June 4 for lighting project

Starting Thursday, June 4, the trail along the English Coulee north of Sixth Avenue North will be closed through June 30 for a lighting renewal project.

The area of the closure extends from Sixth Avenue North to the north side of the Wellness Center.

During this time, the pathway will be barricaded.

Following the first phase of work, the second phase in July will close the path between Sixth Avenue North and University Avenue.

The UND Wellness Trail Lighting Project is intended as a comprehensive upgrade to the existing trail lighting system along the wellness and bike trail network on campus.

The project includes removal of existing lighting infrastructure, installation of new pedestrian-scale LED lighting, new underground electrical distribution and provisions for future security camera installations along the trail.

Benefits of the project include:

  • Improved nighttime visibility along trails
  • Increased pedestrian safety
  • Replacement of aging lighting infrastructure
  • Reduced maintenance and energy consumption
  • Support for future security and emergency response initiatives
  • Long-term flexibility for expanding surveillance coverage along the trail system
