President Armacost, Student Body VP Maya Orvis discuss ways students can address stresses of academic life

With midterm exams and spring break around the corner, Student Body Vice President Maya Orvis talks with President Andrew Armacost about campus resources that can help reduce stress.

More than 14,500 students are enrolled this spring, the president says, which is a record high at UND. He asks Orvis to talk about UND’s available health-and-wellness programming as well as what Student Government has planned for the midterm season.

Orvis says the Wellness Center offers programs year-round benefitting mental and physical health. She also points out that the University Counseling Center is free to access for students and can offer several forms of support, whether for addressing stress or substance use.

Orvis and fellow Student Government representatives will be at the Memorial Union handing out drinks, snacks and flowers through Wednesday this week. She invites students to swing by and talk with their peers.

Armacost shares that spring break is March 10-14 this year and asks Orvis if she has a message for students.

She encourages students to be safe over the break and to check in on themselves and their friends during stressful times. Students walking around with green bandanas on their backpacks are also available to talk to, she says.
