Safety First!

HELMETS, HELMETS, HELMETS!!! Work Well STRONGLY recommends that you wear a helmet at ALL times while riding your bike. About 800 bicyclists are killed and another 500,000 end up in the emergency room each year in the United States. Wearing a helmet can reduce the risk of head injury by 85%. It's a no-brainer! Put your helmet on and keep that noggin safe!

Is Your Helmet Safe and Effective?

First things first, NEVER use a helmet that has a crack, is broken, or has been in a crash. Secondly, your helmet should fit correctly to your head. Your helmet should sit level on your head and rest low on the forehead, NOT TILTED BACK. Your eyes should be able to see the edge of your helmet when looking upward. If you open your mouth, you should feel the helmet pull down on your head. When you shake your head from side to side, your helmet should not move more than 1/2". And lastly, the straps on the side of your head should form a V just under your ear lobes. This article from Harvard and the illustration provided should help:
