S.A.D. VS DEPRESSION - What's the Difference?

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a type of depression triggered by the change of seasons. Most often occurs in late autumn or early winter. SAD is more common in higher latitudes with greater seasonal changes (i.e. Canada and the northern states).
  • SAD and Depression Symptom Similarities
    • Changes in sleep - getting too much or too little sleep
    • Changes in appetite - eating too much or too little
    • Changes in weight
    • Trouble concentrating
    • Loss of interest in usual activities
    • Feeling sad, hopeless, or empty most of the time
  • Differences in SAD and Depression Symptoms
    • People with SAD, not depression may:
      • Notice onset of symptoms during a season change
      • Notice that symptoms arise and resolve at the same times of year each year
