Social & Emotional Wellness

Social Wellness BINGO Activities

  1. Eat a meal with a friend
  2. Call someone you love
  3. Write a handwritten note to a co worker
  4. Text or call a friend you haven't talked to in a while
Your relationships with family, friends, neighbors, coworkers, and others impact your mental, emotional, and even physical wellness. Experts have found that having a variety of relationships can help reduce stress and heart-related health risks. Research shows that lonliness and social isolation are linked to poorer health outcomes, depression, and an increased risk of early death. Older adults who stay connected to others and have strong relationships are more likely to have a better quality of life, more satisfaction in life and have a lower risk of developing dimentia and mental decline.

FACT: According to the National Institute on Aging the health risks of prolonged isolation are equivalent to smoking 15 cigarettes a day. Social isolation and lonliness have been estimated to shorten a person's life span by as many as 15 years.

Emotional Wellness BINGO Activities

  1. Set aside AT LEAST 30 minutes to relax and/or unwind by having YOU time
  2. Write down 5 things you love about yourself
  3. Write down highlights from your day and what you are looking forward to
  4. Treat yourself. Because you deserve it!
Those who are emotionally well have fewer negative emotions and resiliency. Emotionally healthy individuals are more in control of their thoughts, feelings and behaviors. When we are in control of our emotions, we can keep problems in perspective and bounce back from setbacks that come our way. Poor emotional health can lead to high blood pressure, a weakened immune system, increased susceptibility to illness and hormonal imbalance. Being emotionally well does not mean being happy all the time. Instead, it's being aware of our feelings, whether that be positive or negative. They can tell when a problem is more than they can handle on their own and when to seek help from a professional.

What IS Wellness BINGO?

Close your rings! During the month of October, take on the Work Well Wellness BINGO Challenge. We often think about wellness in terms of physical health – nutrition, exercise, weight management, etc., but it is so much more! Wellness is a holistic integration of the Seven Dimensions of Wellness which include physical, emotional, social, environmental, occupational, intellectual, and spiritual wellness.
Wellness BINGO runs from October 1 - 28, 2023.
Our mission is to advocate for a culture of wellness for UND faculty and staff through innovative engagement opportunities. UND.edu/workwell | 701.777.0210
