Xiquan Dong Receives DOE Grant for Improving Climate Model Simulations

Dr. Xiquan Dong, Professor of Atmospheric Sciences, has received a $200,780 grant sub-award through the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) for the proposal entitled “Evaluation of NCAR CAM5 simulated MBL Cloud Properties Using a Combination of Satellite and Surface Observations”. Prof. Dong will provide the Department of Energy (DOE) ARM Azores ground-based observations and retrievals of Marine Boundary Layer (MBL) cloud macrophysical and microphysical properties, as well as drizzle properties. He will work closely with other investigators to evaluate the CAM5 (Community Atmosphere Model) simulated MBL cloud and drizzle properties and eventually improve the CAM5 simulations.

Congratulations Xiquan!
