UND English Department to host Virtual Speaker Series in Writing, Editing and Publishing

Speakers to address path a manuscript takes from submission to publication, practical advice for poets and editors of poetry, and academic journals and publishing

The University of North Dakota’s English Department will host three events in a Virtual Speaker Series in Writing, Editing and Publishing. The events will be held as Zoom webinars. Each event in the speaker series is free and open to the public, though attendees will need to register in advance to receive the Zoom information.

The speaker series will feature guest talks by practicing writers, editors, publishers, and literary scholars, with an opportunity for a Q & A. This fall, the speakers will address topics including the path a book manuscript takes from submission to publication, practical advice for poets and editors of poetry, and the scene of academic journals and publishing.

  • Thursday, Oct. 7, at 7 p.m. CT: “From the Submission Queue to Publication Day (and Beyond): Inside Split/Lip Press,” featuring Kristine Langley Mahler, director and publisher of Split/Lip Press. Register for this event.
  • Tuesday, Oct.  19, at 7 p.m. CT: “Practical Advice for Poets and Their Poems: A Reading and Conversation with Writer, Professor, and Editor Mary Biddinger,” featuring Mary Biddinger, Professor of English at University of Akron Press and editor of the Akron Series in Poetry at University of Akron Press. Register for this event.
  • Tuesday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m. CT: Academic Journals and Publishing, featuring Laurence Roth, Professor of English at Susquehanna University and editor of Modern Language Studies. Register for this event.
