Nov. 28: UND Wind Ensemble concert

The UND Wind Ensemble, under the direction of James Popejoy, will present their final concert of 2017 on Tuesday, Nov. 28, at 8 p.m. in the Chester Fritz Auditorium.

The featured artist is undergraduate music performance major Sadie Cochrane on baritone saxophone.

Tickets, available at the door, are $7 for adults, $3 for students and senior citizens, or $14 per family.

Their program will feature performances of Nitro by Frank Ticheli; Ron Nelson’s Medieval Suite; Cartoon by British composer Paul Hart; and in a tribute to renowned composer David Maslanka who recently passed away, his composition Traveler. Sadie Cochrane will perform Rhapsody for Baritone Saxophone and Wind Orchestra by noted West Coast film and television composer Mark Watters. Rounding out the program will be the seasonal favorite, The Most Wonderful Time of the Year.

Sadie Cochrane, a student of Scott Sandberg, is a senior Bachelor of Music in Music Performance. She earned the UND Outstanding Achievement in Composition and Arranging award in 2016, and in 2017, the UND Outstanding Achievement in Woodwind Performance award. A member of the 188th Army Band in the North Dakota National Guard, her responsibilities include performing with the Concert Band, Ceremonial Band, Jazz Band, and Flatland Dixie Band.

Selected by audition, the UND Wind Ensemble consists of the finest wind and percussion musicians from across the campus, and includes students from many academic disciplines. They have performed at various conferences and events, including the Western International Band Clinic in Seattle, and recently presented a featured performance at the 2017 North Dakota Music Educators Association Conference.
