Karlene Clark Named 2020 UND Student Employee Supervisor of the Year

The Office of Student Finance is pleased to recognize Karlene Clark, from the Chester Fritz Library, as the 2020 UND Student Employee Supervisor of the Year. In addition to this honor, Karlene has also been named the 2020 Midwest Regional Student Employee Supervisor of the Year by the Midwest Association of Student Employment Administrators (MASEA).  These awards were established to recognize the impact student employee supervisors have on the development of our students and community.

Upon being notified of the award, Karlene said, “What I do is only a success because of the amazing students I work with and the wonderful team of staff and librarians that help reinforce what I do by modeling that excellence.”

Nominations are judged based on examples of mentoring abilities, as well as the supervisor’s professionalism and leadership skills. Karlene’s nomination contained many examples of the impact her mentorship has had on the Peer Research Consultant (PRC) program and dedication to the success of UND’s students and the library. She was specifically recognized for preparing PRC’s students not just for their current role, but assisting them in developing professional skill sets they will use long after they have graduated.

In the nomination she submitted, Holly Gabriel stated that “one of Karlene’s greatest attributes as a supervisor is her flexibility and her desire to empower her students to take leadership roles in their duties.”

Please join us in celebrating Karlene’s display of commitment and mentorship to UND’s student workers. Karlene has worked within UND for 19 years, and is part of a team that trains UND undergraduates to provide peer mentoring in library skills to other undergraduates.

Upon campus reopening Karlene will be presented with her glass MASEA Regional Student Employee supervisor of the Year award. She will also be awarded a prize of $100, courtesy of MASEA.  Karlene’s name will be added to the Student Employee Supervisor of the Year plaque on display in the Office of Student Finance. The University of North Dakota and Office of Student Finance recognize the impact Karlene’s work has had on the PRC program and honor her achievements.
