Students invited to take part in virtual commencement ceremony May 16

Even though the May 2020 UND commencement ceremonies have been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, UND’s desire to celebrate and recognize the academic accomplishments of our graduates remains a priority.  To do that, UND will offer a virtual commencement ceremony so everyone can participate without any health risks.

Three virtual ceremonies will be posted online May 16: General Commencement for bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees; School of Medicine & Health Sciences Commencement; and School of Law Commencement.

The ceremonies will each include video remarks from President Wynne and other administrators, as well as a commencement slide for each student which will include name, degree, major, a recording of their name, and a submitted photo. Students have been asked to submit photos by Wednesday, April 29. The virtual ceremonies will go live on Saturday, May 16.

Faculty are asked to encourage students to take part, and invited to watch the ceremonies.

Students will later receive a graduation packet with a diploma, diploma folder, printed program, honor medallion if appropriate, and commencement mementos. Spring graduates are also invited to return to campus to participate in a future commencement.

They may also purchase caps, gowns and tassels or rent academic regalia, as well as class rings, announcements and diploma frames. Legacy, first-generation, veteran and other honor cords are available; visit the UND Commencement page for more information.
